Three Huge Stars Set To Join Yellowstone Sequel Series, Matthew McConaughey Could Be Out
Taylor Sheridan is setting up his next Yellowstone spin-off, and looks to be bringing in more big star names to his popular franchise. The spin-off series previously entitled 2024 has seemingly switched its name to The Madison, and is reportedly eyeing Kurt Russell, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Suits star Patrick J Adams to lead the show.
According to TVLine, the latest iteration of Yellowstone, which is set in the present day, focuses Stacy Clyburn, the wealthy matriarch of a family who heads to Montana from New York City following the death of her husband and brother-in-law in a plane crash. While there is little more known about the series, a filming date seems to be just around the corner.
The Madison is believed to be set to start filming this month on location, and will be the next Yellowstone series to air after the second part of the flagship series’ finale plays out. Fans have waited a long time for news of this new spin-off to move forward, after it was originally announced last year and was expected to attempt to draw Matthew McConaughey in as lead. However, it is not clear whether the Dallas Buyers Club star will still be looking to join the series, or if he has been replaced by Russell.
Yellowstone is Concluding, but the Franchise is Still Expanding
The end of the central Yellowstone story is perhaps not coming to an end in the way it was originally intended. According to Kevin Costner, who will not be returning for the new episodes, the show was expected to run for another season, possibly two, but following the confusing chaos surrounding his exit, plans seemingly changed very quickly.
Although most of the publicity around the show’s culmination has been focused solely on Costner, the end of the series is certainly not the end of the franchise. As well as The Madison, Sheridan has many more shows either in development or production that will keep the franchise alive and kicking for several years to come.1923 Season 2 recently began filming in Texas, and as well as seeing the return of Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as Jacob and Cara Dutton, respectively, the series announced last month that Dexter star Jennifer Carpenter has also joined the series as a “U.S. Deputy Marshall who serves warrants and makes arrests with confidence ahead of her time.”
Landman will be Taylor Sheridan’s other upcoming series of interest to Yellowstone fans, even if it is not directly connected to the Duttons or the Yellowstone Ranch. The 10-episode series also comes with some hefty talent, including Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, “an oil industry crisis manager who solves all manner of life-or-death problems in the unforgiving desert scrubland of west Texas.” Thornton will be supported by Ali Larter, Jon Hamm, and Demi Moore in one of her very rare TV appearances. Sheridan’s grasp of the modern Western is clear, and that means that audiences know exactly what to expect from his shows. With Landman set to premiere on November 17, the week after Yellowstone’s new episodes arrive, Paramount will be hoping that this series continues the creator’s successful run on the platform.
