That is some interesting statistics.
Even though Kevin Costner ‘s name is more often associated with his conflict with Taylor Sheridan and his exit from Yellowstone these days, it doesn’t lessen the creator’s past achievements in the industry. His name is now forever associated with the Western genre, and from what it seems today, Costner has no plans to stop.
The actor, writer and director, Kevin Costner is sure that there is a very specific key to his huge following and blasting success. However, we’ve yet to see the trick work again on his latest passion project.
Speaking with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor explained why he thinks his movies have such a huge following and continue to be successful. According to Costner, he has women to thank, not only in the audience, but also on screen.
“I make movies for men. That’s what I do. But I won’t make a movie unless I have strong women characters. That’s how I’ve conducted my career. I think that’s why I have a good following. I thank you women for dragging your men here. It was a Western after all. I just can’t conceive of a movie without having [strong women],” he said.
While many would argue that Costner’s films are not gender specific, given the rise of the Western genre and its growing popularity, it’s interesting to hear how the creator sees his audience right now. And of course, it’s hard to argue that the diversity of characters with different archetypes does justice to his stories.
Still, the series has some time to redeem itself in the eyes of the audience. The story of Horizon will consist of four parts, and the latter ones might fix the problems the first ones had. So if you are still interested in following Kevin Costner’s creative path, keep an eye out for the new premiere dates.
