Get this, Kevin Costner is reportedly looking forward to returning to Taylor Sheridan’s epic western show, ‘Yellowstone.’
This bit of news is coming after critics ripped open Costner’s passion project ‘Horizon: An American Saga,’ which, if you can believe it, was the Western drama that inspired Costner to leave his lead role in ‘Yellowstone,’ mortgage his home to raise $30 million to sponsor it, and blow off Taylor Sheridan in the process.
Some say the decision to step away from ‘Yellowstone’ looks ready to blow up in his face. Here’s what we know about Costner’s hopes to return.
Kevin Costner – Reportedly ‘Begging’ To Return As John Dutton In ‘Yellowstone’ Following ‘Horizon’s’ Negative Reception
Cannes critics were not particularly nice when describing Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon.’ The Hollywood Reporter called it a “clumsy slog” with “messy plot threads.” IndieWire declared it to be the “dullest cinematic vanity project of the century.”
While some gave it credit for its attention to period detail and the starry cast, most outlets were reluctant to admit it was anything but “a chore to sit through.”
In light of all this, a source has claimed that Costner wants back at ‘Yellowstone.’ “Kevin burned his bridges at Yellowstone,” an insider opined. “But now that his world is crumbling around him, I hear he’s considering begging Taylor to take him back!”
However, an insider also revealed that it will be quite hard for Costner to return after how he made the series creator Sheridan and the cast feel prior to his exit.
“Kevin didn’t make any friends among his costars,” revealed the insider. “He left the entire future of the show in question by delaying the production — and then left the show altogether to work on Horizon. They didn’t know whether they’d even have jobs during all of that. It’s hard to imagine them welcoming him back with open arms.”
At the time, Costner was riding high and mighty as one of the biggest stars in television, and with Taylor Sheridan being one of the hottest in demand writers – remember that Paramount deal? – they both kind of got into a war of egos.
“Kevin felt he was on a winning streak that couldn’t be broken, and he got into a war of egos with Taylor,” the source said. “Things have obviously changed radically.”
Though ‘Yellowstone’ has been forced to round up in its fifth season due to his absence, it’s already spun several spinoffs, one of which will reportedly be led by Matthew McConaughey.
