Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) has been desperate to flee Albert Square after his spate of crimes in EastEnders, but things haven’t worked out the way he planned – which could spell the end for Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy).
Earlier this week, after a visit from wife Debbie’s grieving parents, Reiss convinced Sonia to leave Walford behind for a while and pay Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) a visit.
After some persuasion, Sonia agreed, and tonight’s episode saw the couple preparing for their trip.
However, they soon realised they would need someone to take care of Jasper Parrot in their absence, so Sonia headed to the Queen Vic to ask Martin Fowler (James Bye) to do the honours.
While she was there, she was subject to teasing from Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan Levy), who joked that Sonia had deliberately killed Debbie.
Little did she know, Debbie had been murdered, but not by Sonia. It was actually Reiss who did the deed, in a bid to stop himself falling into any more debt with her care home fees.
When Sonia stormed back home, Martin followed, and warned her that leaving the Square would only fuel the gossip further. He pointed out that Debbie’s mum wouldn’t be likely to ‘keep her mouth shut’ and urged her to be careful.
Later, Sonia admitted to Reiss that she thought it was best they stay in Walford, much to his horror.
Unbeknown to Sonia, their getaway was all based on Reiss escaping the consequences of his actions – some of which are fast approaching.
While Sonia and Martin talked, Reiss had been in the Boxing Den with Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), who threatened to hurt him if he didn’t get his stolen money back by Monday.
With the clock ticking for Reiss, he was left in an impossible position as Sonia put her foot down about staying in London.
