EastEnders has brought back so many classic characters in recent months, and with even more on the way, we’re struggling to keep track of all the comings and goings!

Of course, the announcements of the returns of characters David Wicks (Michael French) and Chrissie Watts (Tracy-Ann Oberman) have sparked plenty of excitement among fans – though everyone is still desperate for even more.

With the show approaching its 40th anniversary, fans have been speculating even more returns, with one creative viewer coming up with their own theory of how a show legend could return from the dead.

Pat Butcher (Pam St Clement) was killed off in emotional scenes in 2012, before staging a surprising return as a ghost for Peggy Mitchell’s (Barbara Windsor) final episodes in 2015.

Now, a Reddit user is keen for her to return, and has thought up a storyline for son David Wicks that would facilitate her returning as an hallucination.

‘Since David is returning, maybe he may have developed psychosis or schizophrenia,’ the fan wrote.

‘Joe Wicks suffered a traumatic experience (his Sister died) which triggered schizophrenia, Bianca Jackson has been diagnosed with depression and maybe David suffered depression (he has talked about his difficult upbringing) too which could’ve triggered psychosis or schizophrenia.

‘Cindy came back from the dead and David may have psychosis episodes where he hallucinates Pat believing that Pat is back too.’

David is set to return to our screens later this year, though his return storyline is being kept strictly under wraps.

Reflecting on the iconic character, producer Chris Clenshaw said: ‘David Wicks is undoubtedly one of EastEnders’ most beloved rogues, and we are thrilled to welcome the talented Michael French back to the legendary role as we lead up to the show’s 40th anniversary.

‘David’s character was never shy of drama during his previous stints, and I can assure you this return will be no different.’

Could David’s return also see a comeback for Pat?
