Yellowstone fans, this latest news might have you scratching your heads. Paramount Network previously announced that the popular series would end after season 5, and the remaining episodes will air beginning on November 10. Now, a new bit of information calls that into question.
Here’s what we know: Kevin Costner, who stars as patriarch John Dutton, will not be returning to the show. A new spinoff, The Madison, is in the works, starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Matthew Fox, Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, and Beau Garrett. Season 2 of 1923 is also in production.
Reportedly, some of the original series’ stars are in talks to continue the run of Yellowstone into a sixth season. According to Deadline, “negotiations are underway” to bring Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton) and Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler) back for another season of Yellowstone. The report explains that the deal is not finalized, but Kelly and Cole have been in negotiations for months.
In comments to Entertainment Weekly, Reilly seems to confirm that discussions are taking place for a potential Yellowstone season 6. Reilly, however, makes clear that nothing is set in stone. She also says that she would reprise her role if series creator Taylor Sheridan is still involved, though she hints that the influential Western series is due for a big change. Reilly’s full remarks are below:
There’s potentially another chapter. It’s being talked about now.
Nothing is set in stone. But if [series creator] Taylor [Sheridan] wants to write it, I would want to do it. That’s it. Because he’s the one that’s written every single line I’ve ever said. She came from his imagination. But we’re both in agreement that there’s a shift that has to take place. Because you can’t keep telling the same story. This story is ending. Yellowstone as we know it is ending, but if there is more story to tell with some of the characters, it’s going to be a little different.
Cole Hauser is ready to saddle up again in Montana after the final season of “Yellowstone” — if creator Taylor Sheridan asks him. Although the final episodes of Season 5 have yet to drop, Hauser exclusively told the Post he’s willing to reprise his role as Rip Wheeler.
“If Taylor writes it, I would certainly love to do it,” Hauser said while promoting the partnership between his coffee brand, Free Rein Coffee Company, and Walmart.
“I love the character,” Hauser told the Post about Rip. “He’s been a pleasure to play. He’s got a lot of different colors. He’s not just one thing.”
The actor noted that he’d especially like to return to the “Yellowstone” universe because of his admiration for his co-stars.
“The cast, you know, I consider them all family,” he said. “So if Taylor was to do something and bring it and put it on my table, I’m certain I would do it.”
Paramount Network has not commented on this new development.
