EastEnders fans are convinced they have ‘exposed’ the return date for Shirley Carter, two years since her shock exit.
EastEnders enthusiasts have speculated on the imminent return of fan-favourite character Shirley Carter.
Soap icon Shirley, portrayed by Linda Henry, first graced our screens in 2006. Known for her brash personality and chain-smoking habits, she quickly became a beloved figure among viewers.
Over the years, Shirley has been at the centre of numerous dramatic storylines, including the murder of her best friend Heather Trott (Cheryl Fergison) and an on-again-off-again romance with Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden).
However, in December 2022, Shirley bid farewell to the soap, leaving fans devastated. Her departure followed the disappearance of her son Mick at sea, who was attempting to rescue Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) and Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks).
Adding to the drama, Shirley’s other son, the despicable Dean (Matt Di Angelo), made a shocking return last year. Fans will remember that Dean was arrested in April for the murder of Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters), a crime he did not commit, reports the Daily Star.
In reality, it was Linda who killed Keanu to prevent him from strangling Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean). Linda, Sharon, and the rest of The Six then framed Dean for the murder.
Since his arrest, Dean has been incarcerated, with The Six seemingly escaping justice. However, viewers are now convinced that Shirley is set to make a comeback – and it could be sooner than we think.
This week in the soap, Dean’s plea hearing took place where he pleaded not guilty. The announcement that Dean’s court case will be held in September has sparked speculation among fans about the potential return of his mother, Shirley.
One viewer speculated on X: “Nice to hear Shirley get a mention. Wonder if she returns for the trial. A second penned: ” Another fan confidently stated: “She is definitely returning then.”
A third chimed in with: “Dean’s court case in September and a Shirley mention. I hope she returns in the autumn for Dean’s trial.”
Meanwhile, another eager fan exclaimed: “please bring back Shirley in September!”
