Kevin Costner just opened up about his divorce from Christine Baumgartner. In a special appearance on CBS Mornings, Costner talked about the pain from the “crushing” divorce. However, he also explained why moving forward from it for his kids was so important for him.
Here is what Costner had to say about his post-divorce life.
Kevin Costner Talks Moving Forward After Divorce
Kevin Costner appeared on CBS Mornings this week to discuss his upcoming movie, Horizon. However, the topic also moved into his personal life and his recent divorce from Christine Baumgartner. According to the actor, the divorce was a “crushing moment” but one from which he had to move forward.
“It hurt, but I go forward,” Costner said, mentioning that he had to remain strong for his children. Kevin and Christine share three children: sons Cayden, 17, and Hayes, 15, along with daughter Grace, 14. Costner also has three kids with ex-wife Cindy Silva (Annie, 40, and Lily, 37, and son Joe, 36) and one with Bridget Rooney (Liam, 26).
“My children are looking at me, so I can’t wilt like a daisy,” Costner said in the interview. “I have to go forward. I have to continue to be who I am and to keep a special eye on who they are.”
Baumgartner filed for divorce in May 2023. She said his Yellowstone schedule kept him away from his family, which was a key concern. However, Costner suspected another person was involved, believing she was developing a relationship with his friend Josh Connor.
Kevin Costner Promotes Horizon, Won’t Return To Yellowstone
For Kevin Costner fans, there is good and bad news. First, his new movie, Horizon, comes out this weekend. It is a huge, sprawling Western movie split into parts. He has been excited about this and pumping it up for quite a while now. However, this also means he won’t return for the final Yellowstone episodes.
Running three hours, Horizon: Chapter 1 hits theaters on June 28. It is the first part of a planned series of four separate films continuing the story. Horizon: Chapter 2 is finished and will hit theaters on August 16. Chapter 3 reportedly starts filming soon.
Horizon is set around 15 years after the end of the Civil War and concerns the expansion and settlement of the American West. However, the white settlers moving into the town of Horizon also have to encounter the Native Americans, who consider it their territory.
These four movies mean that Kevin Costner has no time to return to Yellowstone for its final few episodes. While Costner said he was willing to return to finish his story, the scripts took a very long time to finish, and by the time they were ready to go, Costner had already moved on.
