Kevin Costner gives concerning update on his future as John Dutton on Yellowstone

Kevin Costner just dropped some unsettling news about his future as John Dutton in Yellowstone.

The show’s fifth and final season has kicked off production in Montana, but Kevin hasn’t returned to the set.

Instead, he’s been globe-trotting to promote his new movie series, Horizon: An American Saga, which just rocked Cannes with a seven-minute standing ovation.

Chatting on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepherd, Kevin got real about his early doubts and the overall journey with Yellowstone.

The actor spoke about his journey on the series and the complex decisions he’s faced along the way.

Kevin revealed that he initially committed to just three seasons of Yellowstone before finally extending to five.

However, logistical challenges have prevented him from participating in the latest episodes of season 5, leaving his role in the final stretch uncertain.

Scheduling issues and a reported feud with creator Taylor Sheridan have been contributing factors in Kevin’s departure.

Despite some tension with the Yellowstone team, Kevin had high praise for the series’ creator.

“But [Taylor Sheridan] has a great ear, and he just wrote that stuff really authentically. And it was good fun. And he wrote my part especially well and Kelly [Reilly]’s part. So listen, I had a lot of fun with it….It was really good. I recognized that. So I did it the best I could possibly do it,” he remarked.

While fans hope for his return as John Dutton in the concluding season, Kevin’s referral to the show in the past tense sounds like he might have closed this chapter.

In a candid interview with Deadline, Kevin delved into the complications surrounding his contract with Yellowstone.

Kevin revealed some frustrations with his Yellowstone contract situation, expressing dissatisfaction with how it was handled.

“Well, I haven’t felt good about it the last year, what with the way they’ve talked about it. It wasn’t truthful,” he said.

Initially, he signed for seasons five, six, and seven, but after lengthy negotiations, the agreement was changed to seasons 5A and 5B, with a possibility of a sixth.
