Kelly Reilly Shares the Thing She Hates Most About Her Character

Kelly Reilly, celebrated for her role as Beth Dutton in Yellowstone, once shared her least favorite trait of the character.

While she admires Beth and is excited for her development in the eagerly awaited final season, there’s one habit she hopes Beth will abandon: smoking.

Kelly, who has won over audiences with her genuine and direct portrayal, finds Beth’s smoking distasteful.

This distaste stems particularly because it clashes with her own lifestyle—Kelly doesn’t smoke at all.

But she remains hopeful that this aspect of Beth’s character will be addressed as the series concludes.

Kelly Reilly Beth smoking

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Kelly discussed her experiences playing Beth on Yellowstone.

She highlighted her desire for Beth’s character growth in the final season, especially her wish for Beth to stop smoking.

Kelly revealed that she finds it challenging to enact scenes where Beth smokes frequently, as it contradicts her personal habits.

“I don’t smoke, so all of those cigarettes are herbal cigarettes,” Kelly shared.

Despite her unease, the series creator, Taylor Sheridan, insists on keeping this trait for Beth.

Kelly elaborated: “I hate them so much and he has it in the script when she’s smoking and when she takes a drag, it’s all written.”

She even suggested storylines where Beth could quit smoking, though they were not seen as fitting for Beth’s character arc.

“I’m trying to pitch him an idea of that she gets addicted to Nicotine,” Kelly remarked, unsure if such a plot would be engaging for viewers.

“But I don’t know if that’s entertaining… I don’t know if that’s what we want to see from her.”

Despite these challenges, Kelly is hopeful about Beth’s future, especially imagining a life where Beth and her on-screen husband, Rip (Cole Hauser), grow old together without the burden of smoking.

Production for Yellowstone’s final episodes has begun, with a premiere expected on Paramount later this year.
